I'm conflicted. I actually don't know if I liked this book. Which should say a lot by itself.
I was never particularly fond of Sylvia Plath's writing, although I am quite familiar with her work and her story. That being said, I am a firm believer that both the people around her and society failed her because she was in dire need of help for several years. But of course I am no one to blame anyone for her death. And although it might be tempting, I am no one to demonize Ted Hughes. So, I picked up this book so I could try to understand his side of the story, although I'm aware this has a dose of fiction. But, alas, I couldn't. The truth is two suicides and one murder-suicide happened within his close family, and I can't help but question the role and the character of the common denominator. However, these questions transcend the book itself. I do believe Connie Palmen is a very clever writer and that "Your Story, My Story" is a very clever book, because, if it weren't, I wouldn't pose so many questions.
