This book was slow at first but I stuck it out because I live in Austin and I have a friend who's done the Funniest Person contest. Plus our local bookstore, Bookwoman, had picked it as its book group section for June. The story's dark turns were definitely more than I am usually up for, but I don't usually read thrillers. It was definitely gripping and you start to spiral along with the main character as she dealt with the aftermath of what she'd done. There were some surprises along the way, most definitely towards the end. I think it was an important book, in the #metoo era, and exploring the toll men's abuses takes on a woman's psyche.

Savage, brilliant, and pulse-poundingly gripping, LAST WOMAN STANDING will leave you stunned. Amy Gentry’s revenge thriller is an explosive answer to America’s long ignored culture of sexual violence, and she uses all the tools of modern life—technology, apps, entertainment, and social media—to create a world where victims become vigilantes and there’s nowhere to hide. Gentry’s gift for tapping into both the humanity and darkness of every character works its way into the reader’s subconscious, making us attempt to draw an impossible line between justice and vengeance. An absolute must-read for 2019.

This review is based on an advance reading copy and I need the book to come out so I can start talking about it with everyone!

Dala bych radši 3,5 hvězdy, ale to nejde and I’m feeling generous.

I'm surprised nobody had written this book yet (at least as far as I know), but I enjoyed the comedy angle a lot. There wasn't much that I didn't call in advance, though there was a twist or two. It was mostly revenge fantasy, but I was here for it.

I wanted to love this book! I was so interested in reading it based on the premise, and I was pulled in by the first couple of chapters.

The “Strangers on a Train”-style plot interested me, as did the feeling it it was taking on harassment and assault in the MeToo era.

Yet for all of the tantalizing set-up, this book mostly missed the mark for me. I was disappointed at times by its predictability, by its allowance or suggestion of the possibility that Amanda was a “crazy bitch” falsely accusing someone to ruin a man’s reputation, and with the ending.

Last Man Standing was a quick, at times gripping read read, but I didn’t love it, and it was too predictable for me, even with its attempts to be twisty.
