Not so dark romance

I think it would be wrong to call this a dark romance as, even though both characters experience tragedy, their relationship doesn't feature the elements we usually associate with dark romance, such as a hero that is cold and callous or darkly possessive over the heroine. Kellen is a tortured soul, but his love for Darby is pure and constant throughout the story. That in itself is no bad thing, but it might not be what readers look for when they seek out a dark mafia romance.

I enjoyed the first part of the book, describing how the two characters met as children and fell in love. My enjoyment lessened in the second half of the story which felt overblown, implausible and a little too sugary sweet at times.

I love a good mafia romance now let’s just kick it up a notch & make it an Irish mafia romance. Hes a brudy alphahole. When she was young she meet a sweet boy in the woods the hole town hated but he  was her friend. Tragedy strikes and she ends up in the system no longer able to visit Ireland till years later. She finds out his home burned and he died or did he.

This started out well but I lost interest about 50% through. Since I was that far along I decided to try my hardest to finish it. I think I was expecting a different type of mafia setting , the love they shared was phenomenal though I just didn't connect with literally anything else.

Kellen and Darby had so many hurdles to overcome. The world was not kind to either of them. Their connection was truly touching and the plot was definitely secondary to their relationship. The author’s note was a very nice touch as well. Recommend !

Galway Girl Approved!

This is my first time reading a book by this it & Kellen was magical as they grew from children to adults to find a their HAE. There are many triggers in this story, but these two face them separately & then together. I loved Kellen's intensity & his fierce attraction to Darby. Darby evolved from an innocent child to an abused teen to a badass young women who was able to show Kellen just how much she was willing to do to save him. I wish I could give it more stars! Slainte!
