This is one of the books I put off reading for so long...I adore Greer and loved one of the other series she's written but I was scared to read Phantom. I mean TFotO is one of my top 3 musicals and I was worried that I wouldn't like her version and I'd feel horrible because Greer is amazing!

Welp this turned into another situation where I had nothing to worry about and felt extremely stupid that I didn't read this sooner. Even though Greer recreated the Phantom in modern times, added mental health rep, and included mafia...the way she seamlessly wove the story and had so many connections to the original...it really felt true to what I love most about the musical to begin with...only this time the Phantom gets the girl! As he always should have 😭

Anyways read this book because it's fantastic and Greer is wonderful 💜

What more can I say? This book had me hooked from the very first page and then it dragged me along until the very end. I was constantly on the edge if seat wondering what would happen next! I absolutely loved it! And I don't say that lightly. I have not been as hooked on a book since I read A Court of Wings and Ruin which is huge considering that I managed to devour this book in a week, maybe less. This book had everything from the spice to the story itself.
It practically enhances the "who did this to you" trope which only intensified the story, which ultimately created the the Dark Romance of the book.
What I really adored about this book, was that the author took a well known classic tale and weaved a story that was similar but completely different in its own way. The characters of Sol and Scarlett are their own people, but they do resemble that of the original characters in which they are drawn from. It provides a modern era look at what things would look like if the Phantom of the Opera was staged in New Orleanes.
I also really loved the fact that the character of Scarlett, wasn't this perfect person which is boasted in the original tale, she battles her own insecurities and has her her own inner darkness which makes her relatable. The character of Sol is also similar, while it was always known that the Phantom was very insecure about his face, Sol wasn't so much as concerned with his face as he was about who ended up doing the damage in the first place.
I will say that the spice level in this book is up there, my rating for spice is as follows: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
This is truly an adult novel for 18+ due to the spice and triggers that this story does mention. Definitely not for anyone under 18.
However, if you are looking for an original retelling of Phantom of the Opera, look no further than this book right here!

Okay well now I need a Sol in my life…

But I’m all honesty I’m so obsessed with this book it’s not even funny 😭. Solomon and Scarlett are so amazing together and who doesn’t love a cuddly sweet stalker.

Be sure to check TW before reading this book.

This book just sated all of my phantom of the opera dreams! I couldn’t put it down! The storyline, the characters, the spice; all of it was amazing! I felt as if I was at opera house and wandering through the hidden tunnels. Such vivid and beautiful descriptions of the opera house and this secret world that the phantom has built. I felt all the feels and loved reading Scarlett and Sol’s story. I have the sudden urge to go to an opera or visit a speakeasy and drink some whiskey.

I really thought I’d love this book because I’m a big theatre nerd who loves to read romance, but this just wasn’t it for me. This book took me quite a while to get through because it just wasn’t holding my attention.
