I would give this 3.5 if I could. It was a little dark for me which other people might like more, but the story was pretty good still. Slightly written like a fanfiction lol

Mental illness gaslighting. It’s a hard trigger for me. I just couldn’t keep going knowing her bipolar disorder was going to be used against her.

If you loved the Phantom of the Opera, you will love this steamy retelling of it.

Greer was so creative- instead of doing chapters and parts- she made it into a play with scenes and acts. That was genius and went with the overall vibe of the book.

I enjoyed having the mental health representation (bipolar- type one) in the book. And being able to see how it effects Scarlett during her POVs. Also seeing Sol’s past and everything he does with his POV.

New Orleans was such a fun setting for his book, I can’t really picture it anywhere else.

Ahhh I’m on the fence here, there were some parts that were so emotionally charged that made me think this is a great story. Other parts made me think it was a bit cringey and just a bit odd.

Scarlett’s character was the heroine I mostly rooted for, but again in some occasions I was a bit done with her really

Loved it. It gave me everything I wanted from it.

The way I wanted to love this book.
Phantom of the Opera vibes? Poetic prose? Dark romance? Several of my friends sang its praises, so I held off until I was in the right mood. I even did an immersive read—physical book and audiobook—but despite all that, it just didn’t land for me.

The book starts strong, and I was genuinely intrigued at first. But Scarlett, our FMC, never really grew as a character. She stayed petulant, passive, and—honestly—a little selfish. I kept waiting for a turning point that never came.

And the repetition—so much repetition. If I had a dollar for every time someone said “sing for me” or “muse,” or twisted that same skull jewelry, I could fund the French Quarters next performance. Speaking of: I wanted to love Sol. His quiet obsession and the way he cared for her had that dark romance flavor I usually eat up. But with Scarlett as the love interest… there just wasn’t much room for anything to truly develop.

There were moments I liked. There were glimmers of the book I hoped it would be. But overall, it left me underwhelmed.
