From page one. I was hooked. I loved the different kinds of witches, and the plot was extremely interesting. I usually read books that are heavy on the romance, and the plot takes the backseat. However, this book the opposite could be said. I think the author did a great job with delivering an interesting plot with the romance being a subplot. They were a few spicy scenes but nothing too horribly graphic, so if you prefer books that are not littered every few chapters or even pages with smut, this book would be perfect for you. She built the world that was easy enough to understand and as someone who often butchers characters names trying to pronounce them. I loved having something to reference with the correct way to say them. The plot is full of intrigue, angst and political differences and I ate it up.

*Thank you to the author for the eARC.*

A fast-paced urban romantasy packed full of witches, vampires, friendship, loyalty, political unrest, conspiracies, and familial vs societal expectations. With dual POVs between a princess and solider,  Brit Ks takes you on a slow burn but steamy journey of forbidden love, forced proximity, grief and trust.

Leigh and Wilder have great tension and chemistry through the reluctant bodyguard trope and a vast array of secrets. Their relationship felt a little surface level simply due to the amount of plot and maneuvering going on but the characters are believable with the effort the author put into their backstories.

I could've used a little more in terms of explanations for the magic and worldbuilding for this to really hit home for me. At the beginning, the two groups of witches: Nebula and Epsilon threw me for a little loop until more of the society's past was discussed. It all felt too complicated, and other times, not explained enough.

I look forward to book two after the cliffhanger!

“The longer I remain in Borealis, the more of a liability I am. I must leave town before ever sitting on the throne.”

When Leigh Raelyn’s father and brother have been mürdered because of her, will she accept her responsibility and fall in line as next heir of the throne or will she run away keeping the secrets her gift?

This book had a sprinkling of all my favorite things and not once was I ever bored. The world building was phenomenal and I loved the fact that there’s a pronunciation and magic guide.
Leigh’s struggle throughout the book had my heart hurting, but her growth was amazing.
Wilder, ugh Wilder. That man is infuriating and stubborn and I cannot begin to comprehend how he’s still functioning after everything he’s been through. The two of them are just 😫

I was chosen as an ARC reader for this story.
What an great debut novel! The mapping of all the politics was well done. I really enjoyed getting to know the different characters and pieces of this world. I am very much looking forward to learning more about each type of magic hopefully in the next book!

What a debut *stands to clap*

Full disclaimer I know Brit from bookstagram. And yes, she’s as amazing as her page is. But this isn’t a review about Brit. It’s a review about the book Brit wrote. And how amazing she is or isn’t, means nothing. The truth is she might have written a book that wasn’t for me and that wouldn’t make her any less amazing. But lucky me, she wrote one that almost seemed MADE just FOR ME. 🥹

See, I know Leigh and Wilder. I know them. I feel them. I see them. The unexpected pair took my heart by storm and I was utterly consumed with them. I lived every moment with them. Every page. Every line. They felt so real that now I’m here empty, having reached the end of Raise Hell and thinking I want them to come back and occupy all the spaces they left behind.

But Brit didn’t only mold these characters to perfection. She also crafted an urban gothic fantasy world that I want to live in and a plot I wish I had nailed, yet didn’t. Scratch that. I don’t wish to have known. Being caught by surprise at the end of this book was magnificent.

If you’re looking to read something by a new author in 2024 let it be Brit KS. 🖤

As I sit down to write this review, I am still trying to comprehend exactly what I have just read!  What a refreshing and well execute debut in the world of Paranormal Fantasy!

This book takes you on a journey with twists and turns and intrigued and betrayal.  There are characters that you’ll love to hate, hate to love and at time you’ll find yourself going “WTF” at their decisions.

While the overall pace of the book is well executed, the last section really ramps up and I found myself unable to put it down, holding breath not quite knowing what was going to happen next.

As for the Leigh and Wilder; these two had instant chemistry in buckets.  With each passing chapter the tension ramps up against the backdrop of the overarching mysterious plot.  Wilder very much comes to understand Leigh and the choices that she makes.  He learns to anticipate her moves and trusts in her sometimes absolutely bonkers decisions.  Through this, Leigh helps Wilder realise that sometimes you have to break the rules to save others.

I don’t want to say too much because spoilers but if you’re in the market for a new fantasy series - add this one to the list!

I don’t even know where to begin with this book, in a good way. If you are looking for a Crescent City hangover book this is the book for you! This wasn’t just a 5 star for me, this was a standing ovation. Hands freaking down to Brit K.S. for her debut Raise Hell truly. I was grabbed by the cover art for this book and let me tell you I am in love with this entire book. Okay let me shut up and tell you about the book.
We start out with Leigh, the crown’s princess, heir to the throne. She’s on her way to pick up magic suppressing pills. As she’s picking them up there is a raid from the Blades or the police. She gets into a scuffle with one of the Blades, Wilder. Leigh gets away safely and returns back to her life, until some bad people decide to go after her. Wilder helps Leigh get away, which promotes him to bodyguard to the princess. Following the two as they are looking for ground breaking letters.
This book did everything and so much more, with lovely world building, beautifully put together characters and crazy action.  Leigh and Wilder and their friends are what really made this book for me. I had such fun with them, Leigh especially. Leigh is that crazy girl who won’t stop for anything to get what she wants and I love that. Wilder seems to be the more realistic, more grounded voice to Leigh. Their medium romance was a blast to read, watching Wilder fight against himself while Leigh just wants him to let go. Absolutely a phenomenal read, everyone must go read it ASAP!

I thought the world building was done so well there at the beginning. I was taking notes trying to remember the different factions lol. I LOVE political fantasy books so this was right up my alley. Very Bridge Kingdom vibes with more MAGIC.✨

The ending really got me!! I didn’t see that twist coming at all, but it didn’t feel unbelievable either!! I can’t wait for book 2!!

So proud of you Brit!!!!!!! This was AMAZING!!!! So unique and truly a fun read!!
