Very slow. Learnt a lot more about the story of King Arthur but I feel like not a lot happened to hook me in.

A quick and fun read! I enjoyed the new take on Arthur and “Guinevere” was a fascinating character. I’m excited to read the rest of the series.

I'm starting off 2019 on a bad note.

This book was not good, in my eyes. I found that with about 100 pages left, I hated this book. I didn't want to read it, look at it, or anything. It was that bad.

The story is a King Arthur retelling in which Guinevere is a changeling. She is a daughter of Merlin, a witch, and is sent to replace the real Guinever after she died and marry Arthur. She is sent more as a protector of Arthur than to be his wife.

This book and this author prides themselves on being feminist retellings. But, this book was not feminist in the slightest (even though I know I am not a feminist, I know what feminism is). The only thing remotely feminist about it was that White made Braigen have a girlfriend and Lancelot a girl (which is so unforgivable, Lancelot was my favorite). Guinevere was advertised as being a strong female character, but all we got was an indecisive brat who couldn't stand up for herself when she was very much talked down to. She never took any action for herself.

I found all of the characters to be completely uninteresting. There was barely any bit of Arthur and the ending was so predictable. The only character I genuinely cared for was the dragon. Every other character was so flat and blah.

There was absolutely nothing happening until the last 50 pages. I was wasting my time when I was reading about Guinevere's fear of water and how she can't juggle being a queen and a protector at the same time woe as me. I was bored the whole time.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this book and I am sad that I had to read this as my first Kiersten White book. Are the rest of her books this... eh?

This book was written very well but idk, I felt like it was like any other retelling which isn't bad at all. It was just kinda meh for. It didn't have any big change to me on my life or anything.

Boring story that wasn't doing anything fun or interesting with the Arthurian legends.  Couldn't stand Guinevere, she was dull, bland, & kind of dumb.  I was hoping this would be queer, but other reviews indicated that this wasn't really the case (except for a side character).  I probably would've liked this book more if I were still part of the YA demographic, because it felt very YA.  Ultimately, this book just wasn't for me.
