• The Iron Druid Chronicles #3 • Celtic and Norse mythology

HAMMERED is the 3rd book in the urban fantasy series, The Iron Druid Chronicles. I started this series a few years back and am just picking it back up. This one is, by far, the most entertaining to date.

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is worse than a blowhard and a bully—he’s ruined countless lives and killed scores of innocents. After centuries, Viking vampire Leif Helgarson is ready to get his vengeance, and he’s asked his friend Atticus O’Sullivan, the last of the Druids, to help take down this Norse nightmare.

This book has slowed down the pace a lot, because for a long time after Atticus's apple thief mission, we only read about the preparations for the god-killing expedition. It's not until the last 70-80 pages that we really get into the Asgardian adventure and the chaotic battle. Through flashbacks we get to know the new characters better, who share their reasons for hating Thor.

I really missed Oberon, sadly Vejnemöjnen, Perun and Chang Kuo-lao couldn't make up for it. Besides Atticus, the duo of Leif and Gunnar made the story exciting and funny. For the first time, I felt that the druid needs a smart and brave female character, so I am looking forward to Granuaile getting a bigger role.

The epilogue was heartbreaking because we lost a lovable character who deserved a much better fate.

I don't know what I think yet.
I loved the tales told by the 5 guys wanting revenge.. they were super interesting.. heck, I want spinoff books/novellas from them!
but the actual fight.. I didn't want that to happen.
now I worry about my babies Hal and Lief.

Actually i like this book more than Hexed. It's really more serious than the two others. But you learn a lot about some other characters, even if they are new. Sadly there is not much Oberon (my fav character). It keeps you thinking why this chain of actions leads to the current happenings and makes you wonder where it will lead us. I am really looking forward to the next book! Just luv this chronicles!

Hammered returns to Hearne's usual solid plotting. The moment of truth is upon Atticus as he is called upon to fulfill his promise to take vampire Lief Helgarson to Asgard to kill Thor.

Ok, I'm done with this series, it's getting predictable. It is good, and a easy and mostly enjoyable read. It was the perfect segue after slogging through the brilliant but detail-rich full Game of Thrones (yes i know, ASOIF, whatever) series. Not having read any urban fantasy genre, I think the main character, Atticus, is really cool, but he's so 2d. I mean, a 2000 year old Druid that is constantly referencing 1970 - 1990ish pop culture... Eh. Seems a little too auto-biographical, in a cringe-worthy way for me to continue. BUT it is an enjoyable page-turner.
