Considering the main, over arcing topic of this book isn't even mentioned anywhere in the blurb of this book, it wasn't exactly what I was expecting.
That said, it was fairly clear from the early pages what was going to happen - I didn't foresee it taking up quite so much of the book, but regardless it was done very well.

What I'm learning of McFarlane is that she spends a lot of time on the sadness, and the 'working through things', and what I came for (jolly romance) comes as a nice salve at the end. Its lovely writing in its own right, and I can't fault if at all, only that it wasn't quite what I thought I was picking up.

I found myself really eager to get back to reading this one though, and it was a story filled with very human characters, if not a lot of British references for over 30's that I couldn't keep up with.
