Jess Wisecup has written such an invigorating tale in The Divine Between series. The sequel sometimes isn't what you expect. And that was the case with this book.
It far surpassed expectations!!!
The twists and turns at the end left me gasping. I was in tears a couple of times and I do not cry. The characters, their histories, and current situations draw you in hard.
Second chance romance? CHECK!
Enemies to lovers? CHECK!
Run. Don't walk. And buy this series!

Loved. But some parts were extremely slow and had me not bothered to pick up my kindle to keep reading which is why I’m rating it a ⭐️ 3.5 ⭐️
I adore this series so much holy shit! I am in awe at how amazing Jess Wisecup is as an author when she has only written two books!
The plot and politics was fantastic, the character and relationship develop was stunning, the emotions were so real, the sex was hot and now we have dragons! Just pure perfection.
I loved how we got more POVs because it wasn’t random they actually further the plot and we learn to know these characters and watch as they go through their own battles and romance which was amazing! All of these characters are complex and I love them all.
There were a lot of heavy topics in this book with trauma and PTSD being at the forefront for one of our beloved characters. Emmeline and Rain are one of my favourite couples of all time and they go through a lot in this book. What Rain went though smashed my heart into shards but the way Emmeline loves him through it and does everything in her power to try and help him was beautiful. We also see how trauma can affect those around you like with Emmeline feeling neglected which was also very devastating to read about but very raw and real. It beautiful to watch this couple work through it together and come back to each other.
The ending of this book was no where near as brutal which I was very bloody grateful for and I am eagerly awaiting book three which can’t come soon enough!

I really enjoyed this book! It was really long but the pacing was so much better than the first book in the series. It reminded me a lot of “The War of Two Queens” - if every bad plot point from that book was changed to make sense (I hated TWOTQ and loved this book).I’m super excited for the next book bc the author said it’s going to focus on Dewalt and I love his journey so far! Hopefully we’ll learn more about Cy as well. I don’t care much about Ven but it could get interesting in the next book! I will say ‘Em is much more patient in this book than I think I’m capable of!
Dang the first half was rough. Such sorrow, suffering and grief for everyone. A lot of filler but also too many story lines/POVs for my taste. Still a really great series with so much going for it!
3.5 stars. Still enjoying the story but could do without the dirty talk

I don’t have enough words to say to express how much I loved this book! Seriously, I’ve left this Currently Reading shelf for over a month now because I knew writing this review would be hard.
What’s there to say?
Jess Wisecup is shaping up to be one of the great fantasy writers of our generation. Her storytelling and characters are immaculate. I felt like book one was too reliant on character exposition, but that’s gone here. This plot and the evolution of these characters isn’t passive anymore; it’s active and addictive. I loved every page!
It was amazing watching Rain and Emma find their way back to each other and learn how to work as a couple. What I love about this couple is they’re both flawed individuals. There’s grit to them and frustration and ire…but there’s so much love and grace too. Jess wrote a relationship that feels so real, and you can’t help but love them!
And the side characters! I will literally walk through fire for Dewalt. I want the world for him, and watching him learn to want more for himself was such a treat. I’m excited about revisiting all of these characters in book 3, but Dewalt more than anyone else. Elora and Cyran are another couple that I’m eager to see evolve. Jess wrote their pain and earnestness so, so well. There’s not a thing I would change for them. And Lavenia’s arc felt primarily like build-up for what’s to come in book three, but I can’t complain because that storyline sounds so very promising!
If I have to find a flaw (and, honestly, we’re stretching it here), I’d say I wish we had less filler time between the major moments with Declan. He’s an amazingly written antagonist, and I think it’s a disservice to relegate him to such limited page time in a book this size. Small complaint, and it’s more a personal preference!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel! I have so many questions still waiting to be answered, so I’m impatiently waiting for book three!
Spice: 2.5/5

How is this one better than the first?! Amazing read, wonderful story telling. Made cry so many times just because the author writes human emotions so beautifully. Can’t wait for the rest. Honestly wished this giant book would never end.
