The latest Toby Daye book brings her deeper into the chaotic past that she mostly left behind at the beginning of [b:Rosemary and Rue|6294549|Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1)|Seanan McGuire|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1266621691s/6294549.jpg|6478937]. We learn more about the mysterious, mad Amandine. The secret of where Luna and Rayseline went while Toby was a fish is revealed. And Toby's mouth gets her into trouble once again.

I was a little ambivalent about this series when I read the first one. It seemed a little predictable in some ways. But there was enough that I enjoyed about it, and quite a few people recommended it, that I decided to continue on. I'm glad I did, because each subsequent book has been better than the last. This fourth book is no exception. And I can finally say that I'm hooked. I'm invested in the characters, the plot, and the world. I will definitely be continuing this series.

All of the reviews said to give this storyline a chance and that things picked up after the first few books. Apparently, I am there! Fast-paced and full of action. Toby had to face some hard truths about herself, the people that she loves and what true immortality means. There is one thing that I did not care for in this book,
Spoiler I realize that Toby and Conner had a romance in the past that his family ended, I realize that his marriage to a crazy b****is purely political, I am STILL NOT A FAN of the kissing and hand holding etc. He is married. His wife has her issues but Toby and Conner are both aware of the partial reason for her anger and brokenness. I am not giving her a free pass for her cruelty, especially to her mother, but I also don't think it was right for Toby and Conner to parade their feelings in front of her. With that said, part of my problem with Toby and Conner's possible reunion now that he is divorced is the fact that I would really like to see a romance with Toby and the Cat King!

Every book in this series makes it better as we dive deeper into the Summerlands. Toby and her companions become more interesting as we go, and I found myself caring a lot about even the smallest side character that we've been following in some way for four books now. Can't wait to read the next!
