The pedophilia in this book is IMMENSE. I cannot imagine how it passed through whatever editing there was with all of the creepiness intact. No doubt it was even worse before editing. Shudder to think of it in that form. Shudder to think of it in its final form. The main character has a 17 year old girl wear an outfit that shows off her breasts in a move entirely unrelated to the plot. This didn't need to be here. A LOT of this didn't need to be here. I hate Murakami with all my heart after reading this. He has made a (parasocial) enemy for life with this book. I cannot believe this exists and is as popular as it is.

Well-written yet anticlimactic. Many questions that are posed to the reader that go unanswered. Somewhat disappointing for such a great author but still mildly satisfying. The plot is interesting which is what makes it worth the read.

I read about half of this (which is a LOT of pages) but don't plan to finish (returned it to the library this morning). I enjoyed the writing and the characters were fascinating, but it was SO not getting anywhere (and conversely, going everywhere)....I just feel like saying, OK, I get it.

This book is a journey, and it will mark for sure a period in my life. A trip to somewhere strange, close, freeing is what reading this book felt like. It is very long but that made it special too. The descriptions and the mention of the details of details made accessing the world of 1Q84 easier. I related to the characters so much in the beginning, they became my friends at the end. How to describe what this felt like to me? hmm. A dream, it was exactly like one of the dreams i have when i sleep. Same weird present real vibes. I loved it tout cours

Wow. This is a book that I needed to read right now. The right book for the right time kind of thing. I tried Norwegian wood once and dnfed it. So, I was a little bit apprehensive to start this tome. However, I flew through it and when I was not reading it I was thinking about it. I am going to try Norwegian wood once more and probably some other books by this author in the near future.
