a very decent thriller with an interesting concept

•characters:
i found them all to be very dynamic. i was very enraptured by the dynamic the MC had with everyone, and as the secrets were revealed so many layers were brought to the surface

•plot:
i love the concept of a drought causing evidence to be discovered, resulting in this emotional upheaval
with each chapter logging the current precipitation, i liked having that direct correlation of the metaphorical and physical floodgates opening during the final act

•twists:
a little mid, if im quite honest. i hate when the main character is so stuck on one or 2 suspects, that they forget the first rule is to never trust anyone, and it’s always who you least suspect

•mood/atmosphere:
it was aight, i liked the lake imagery. but really is was the ending storm that tied the whole thing together

•themes:
dad, why send your daughter in this scavenger hunt. you really couldn’t have come up with a more effective way of telling her the truth ?
aside from that, i liked the sibling dynamic, between natural born and adopted kids

this book was definitely interesting, it just didn’t quite do for me what i would have liked
