There’s dark romance and then there’s…whatever this was. The author seems to confuse kink with controlling and manipulative behavior. And the dr. Google “therapy” was ridiculous. You don’t heal that kind of trauma with a magic 🍆

trigger warning : rape.

honestly, i was very wary of reading this book after reading the description. i was not sure if i could handle it, however it was short and i was like okay i can do this.
this book took me through a whirlwind of emotions. especially since i knew what the boys were up to, they just wanted her safe. :( so sweet. i honestly don’t blame her for forgiving them all, especially with their history.
i just WISH they had more interactions between Conor and Jarret. I also wish it would’ve showed them getting married after Lorne got out of jail but i’m just a baby.
overall, im so glad i read this book. it ended perfectly tbh. only gets 3.5 cause of the rape but that’s just my preference.

Jake wasn't able to save her when she needed him most and somehow he continued to let her down when he thought he was doing what was best for her. He never stopped loving her, but keeping her safe was always his biggest priority. Years later she's back to honor their teenage pact and she almost safe enough to stay. But letting her go now isn't an option, he loves her too much. But can she forgive him? Can he forgive himself? And can he keep her safe?

This was my first Pam Godwin book and it definitely won't be my last. I won't lie, this one was definitely different from the books I typically read, the characters definite have some morally grey attributes that I wasn't sure about, but I loved the way Pam handled such heavy subject matter. I appreciate that the characters were true to themselves and didn't shy away from their wants and needs. I loved the way Jake wanted to help Conor and that helping her was always his focus. And I love that he never saw her as broken or irrevocably changed from her experiences. I'm genuinely curious about the rest of this series and Pam's other work.

I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the following, but would highly encourage everyone to look into trigger/content warnings.
