Lovely read. For a non fiction book I don’t think I really had any takeaways or life lessons from this book but was very enjoyable to read.

Psychoanalysis is wack, but these stories are super interesting and touching and made me think!

I recently had the opportunity to attend a lecture by Stephen Grosz at the Institute of Psychoanalysis, which piqued my interest in his book. This book is a treasure trove of insightful, bite-sized anecdotes drawn from Grosz's experiences in psychoanalytic practice. Each story delves into themes deeply resonant with the human experience, offering reflections that are both thought-provoking and relatable. You don’t need any knowledge of psychoanalysis to enjoy this book!

I really enjoyed reading this book. The short chapters make it very digestible. The only thing is that there could have been a deeper analysis/explanation after each anecdote.

I'll be honest - I have a masters in counseling. And I HATE psychoanalysis. However, I tried to go into this with an open mind. I found some of the points that Grosz makes intriguing, but struggled with the way he "fixes" people/reveals these startling insights about them. It felt fake and like the stories were made for the book. And again, I just don't like psychoanalysis.

Interesting read with some thought-provoking insights. It would have been cool if some of the stories did not wrap up so nicely.

Interesting topics and case studies, but every time I became invested in one the author would switch gears to something else.
