Onyx was amazing.. Kat and Daemon are two of my favorites. Their relationship is so much more realistic than a lot of the more common fantasy books. There isn't the soul mate instant connection, in fact the two are barely able to tolerate the other at times. At the end of Obsidian Kat and Daemon are able to defeat the Arum, but it was Kat who pulled it off. Somehow she was able to harness Daemon's and Dee's power to keep them all alive. From that point forward she and Daemon have had a connection. This is new to both of them, neither of them think it's wise to share their secret, but there aren't any others that have experienced their bond. Onyx takes several twists and turns, right up to the very end.

***Spoilers***
Kat has no idea where she stands with Daemon. Their relationship, if you can call it that, is so off and on. Kat has a hard time admitting what she feels for Daemon, and even though I think she knows deep down, the way he treated her for so many months isn't easily forgotten. Blake is the new guy at school, he is interested in Kat, for no other reason than because he likes her. It's refreshing for Kat to let go, relax and just be normal. Daemon is over the top jealous, and hilarious with how many different names he comes up with, anything but Blake. Of course he knows his real name, but Daemon makes an art out of irritating people. Blake later reveals that he and Kat are alike. That being healed by a Luxen mutated them into a type of hybrid human. He offers to show her how to control her powers that she suddenly begins developing, but Daemon never trusts him, and never gets over his dislike. Kat assumes it's because he is jealous they are spending so much time together, and doesn't take Daemon's warnings to heart. Turns out that Daemon was right. Blake is secretly working for the DOD. The DOD are more interested in the hybrids than they have ever been in the Luxen and Arum. Blake's alien friend that healed him is held hostage, while Blake rounds up the other hybrids to keep them from killing his friend. His latest project is Kat. She doesn't find this out until it's almost too late. Dee and Adam interrupt Blake while trying to take Kat, and both are seriously hurt. Adam doesn't live through the battle, and Kat holds the guilt of not involving Daemon sooner. Bethany's uncle had a life threatening cancer in their book, but appears in Onyx (without anyone knowing of the connections) as the guy dating Kat's mother. He kidnaps Kat, and uses her to draw Daemon out. He tells them that the DOD would have them both locked in cages, but he is willing to let them go if Daemon turns him into a hybrid. He also tells Daemon where the DOD is holding Dawson, and gives him a very small window of opportunity to break him out. Daemon agrees, and he and Kat rush to where they are holding Dawson. Once they get there, and find the place empty they go back home defeated, only to find Dawson has beat them there. That's where it ends.. No idea how Dawson's return affects the group, but I am looking forward to the next book to find out.

I could not get enough of this book. I know some don't like books about aliens but I loved this book. The connection with Daemon and Katy after him healing her. I hated Blake and I cried about Adam. I am overjoyed about Dawson. Love rereading books all over again.

4.5 stars...

Just as readable as the first, but for some reason, it seemed like I had to suspend disbelief a lot more in this one. And I don’t mean the alien part- that was actually fine. I just felt like some things weren’t explained as well as they could’ve been. That’s why I rounded down to 4 stars. BUT it was just as enjoyable and suspenseful & honestly, JLA is a treasure. She writes stories that are fun and exciting without being too complicated, and my overwrought brain loves her for that.

Also, I really like Katy and all, but I’m excited for her to not be so fucking naive anymore. Because surely she can’t still be after what happened in this book....

5⭐️ YA Suspenseful Romance

I love this series!! This one had a higher intensity! More action, drama, and heat (not any detailed descriptions
