4.5 stars for this book.

If you've ever loved something so much; a book, a movie, a comic, you understand being in a fandom.

This book did such an amazing job at showing not only the amount of love and hate artists receive, but the amount of people that feel like this art is their only escape. There were undercurrents of mental health throughout the whole book, which I really loved how the author brought this to people's attention very subtly. From the outpouring of people who's only real happiness was the comic in the book, to Eliza's anxiety and her struggle with it before being properly diagnosed, to Wallace not speaking because of his past traumas; I feel like the book really brings to light the struggles that people with mental health disorders and also just plain introverts are faced with everyday.

The love story did not leave me wanting; bringing two people together with such issues with themselves and how they are, but learning to love each other through it all really tugged on my heartstrings.

I also really wish the author had a full comic of Monstrous Sea or a fuller outline of the story I could read. Every except and comic block I read in the book made it sound like something very cool I'd be interested in reading.

Overall, I suggest Eliza and Her Monsters to anyone who is or ever has been in a fandom and is a fan of a good story that's light and you won't want to put down.

4.5. Wow. Way more than I thought it was gonna be. Handled some more serious things I think plenty of people deal with so well. Loved it. Such a good read.

Interesting plot line with cute and charming characters. This book left me with a feeling that there was more to Eliza than was stated and I wish the author had delved a bit more into her personality tho.

3.75 stars. I am very confused on how I feel about this book. At the beginning I found Eliza to be very annoying and ungrateful, I thought she was over dramatic towards her parents, and I thought the relationship between her and Wallace didn’t have much chemistry. As the book went on though, I started to realize that the flaws within the characters made them so realistic and human. I felt what Eliza was going through. This book was hard to read but that’s what made it so good. I think the reason why I’m so thrown off about the book is that I usually love to connect and fall for the characters, but in this book I really didn’t, it was more about the experiences they went through and the very real issues they faced. I’m still kind of confused but I did ultimately appreciate this book for sure.
