These last 2 books have been much better than the first. Unfortunately I read a summary of the series and didn't like what was going to happen with the main characters in the next 3-4 books. I'm just not going to continue investing time in books that will piss me off by #6 or 7.

I really enjoyed this book. I was totally caught up in story. I couldn't imagine who could kill all of these couples. The story kept giving just little bread crumbs until you were told who did it at the end. I love books that do this where you have no idea who had done it until the bitter end.

This was an interesting reread, I couldn't remember the ending so I had a bit of a jaw drop moment. All in all an enjoyable way to spend a night catching up with Scarpetta, Marino and Co.

This is the third book in the series I’ve read and my misgivings with the first two books are slightly alleviated in this one.

There’s significantly less real estate accorded to characters smoking.

In this instalment, the doctor had a significantly lesser role in the main part of the investigation but ultimately she was in the mix when the plot was revealed.

After reading three books in the series, I’m starting to formulate a mental markup of what elements, at a high level are used by the writer.

1. Overarching plot that will ultimately reveal the killer.
2. A sub plot that will attempt to distract the reader from the identity of the real killer but this won’t be revealed until near the end.
3. Elements about the doctor’s personal life will be strewn about but with no real happy ending

One difference from the second book in the series compared to this one was the sort of happy ending in the second one but no such thing in this.

A couple of things I’ve liked so far.

1. There’s lots of focus on character development.
2. There’s less focus on high speed chases and conspiratorial theories (this book does have it but at the same time doesn’t have this element - not going to give anything away)
3. No happy endings
4. Less jumping around between scenes and more graceful transitions (although I did enjoy the jumping around but I can see how not everyone would like it)
5. Lots of intense writing. I could not put the book down and continued reading even though I had much more pressing ways to spend my weekend :(

I’m definitely going to read more books in the series.

My favorite Scarpetta book so far. The plot just doesn’t let up and I really did have trouble putting it down anytime I had to stop reading. Can’t wait for the next one!

Good story with an interesting plot line. The ending appeared a little forced, as though the author was trying to hurry it along.

I liked this book a lot all the way up until the end. The end was so anti-climatic!
