What a drag. I hated these short stories. I expected to love this from the reviews and the book cover and the themes, but I was bored out of my mind. The style was grating and amateurish.

These stories are top notch. I read You Came Back by Coake and although the subject natter was not something I would generally read, I was so impressed with his writing style that I made sure to check out this collection. Coake writes sadness and confusion and melancholy and rarely falls into the trap of sentimentality.

Will have to get hold of more Coake books, this was very good and I loved the 'short' stories.

The stories in this collection all deal with how death (the "Trouble" in the title) affects the living, the people who have to go on. Some of the stories show too much restraint for my taste, but the last two, Abandon about a weekend getaway gone very, very wrong, and All Through The House , where a small town sheriff faces the facts of a murder/suicide involving a close friend, break out with some surprises.
