I understand what's well-done about this book. I wasn't expecting it to have a sense of humor, for instance. I see the appeal.
For my personal tastes, I cannot stand the sheer volume of dialogue that's used. It's cleverly used, often to imply actions that aren't otherwise described. But too much for me. I skimmed through the dense conversations recounting political alliances and warfronts, references to history and allusions to legend.
And then it just ends without much fanfare and drama at all... on to the next book it announces. Hmph.

A worthy successor to Sapkowski's The Last Wish, continuing the story of the Witcher and the troubled times he lived in. The flow of the novel is pretty weird at first, considering the fact that it's much more of an ensemble piece than the Geralt-centric video games would have you believe.
Sapkowski's writing is witty and down-to-earth as usual, with the odd awkwardness in translating text from a Slavic language.

Visai politikai gan smagi trūkst kartes, nekad nevar zināt, cik bīstami izvērtīsies fakts, ka vietu nosaukumiem un miljons karaļu vārdiem es tikai pārskrēju ar acīm.
Pēdējās 100 lapas izrāvu ar domu "beidzot pievērsties kaut kam citam uz kādu brīdi", bet ar pēdējo teikumu gandrīz jau paņēmu rokās nākamo.
Es esmu apmierināts.
