3/5 stars!
I really enjoyed the Novella ‘the Last Wish’ it answered a lot of burning questions about Geralts past and a deep dive into the creatures, signs and powers. The mini stories were exciting and well written and I was so eager to read more.
I really enjoyed the first half of ‘Blood of Elves’ I felt that it flowed really well. It was nice to see the relationship between Triss and Ciri. I don’t think il ever get over how the Witcher series on Netflix butchered Triss. She comes across entitled, annoying and a complete whimp. Some may still think that about book Triss (I love video game Triss) but she’s obviously not what is portrayed in the books as much. But I still liked her. She wanted Ciri to be treated like a woman not in a sense of dumbing everything down for her but for her to be accommodated for. To be treated with respect and not be shamed for being a woman surrounded by alpha males. To be able to still be feminine and be masculine. The best parts of the book for me was with Triss and Ciri at Kaer Morhen.
But about half way through I just didn’t really enjoy it anymore. I do think if you have never watched the series or played the games you wouldn’t have an absolute clue about what was going on. I’m not sure how people who pick the book up and know nothing actually get on with the book. There is a lot of lore, characters and places it’s hard to keep up. I think the problem is that most high fantasy books are big ole books. Trying to cram every detail into less than 350 pages isn’t going to be easy. The pacing falls off and everything feels so muddled. I wanted to read the books to understand the inner workings of the Witcher world. I wanted to understand everything a bit more. Now I just come out feeling more confused than before.
Even though ‘The Last Wish’ was a novella it had better pacing and it made so much more sense than the ‘Blood of Elves’ as a reader it makes me sad to think I may just have to stick with the TV and Video Game material. I do love everything about the Witcher world but I’m not sure if I could carry on reading the series. Defiantly isn’t me saying never say never because I might want to carry on, but I’m not sure it is likely. Maybe another novella who knows?

A little beneath the previous books, but still excellent.
I liked this but not has much as the first two. It feels like a ramp-up to a more exciting story. Looking forward to the next one! There is never enough Geralt of Rivia.
