I really enjoyed it! Fast paced and interesting. Definitely give Rogerson's books a shot, I've enjoyed 3 of her books so far!

I'd like to thank Edelweiss and Simon & Schuster for allowing me to read this (still in progress, but mostly completed) ARC of Vespertine.

Vespertine is a different book of Margaret's. Probably because there is no romance. However, there are bonds made with people - both real and dead. Those bonds might turn into something overt time. So if you come reading this book expecting a romance, this isn't for you. But if you come because you love her writing and her characters, this IS for you and you will love love love it.

I loved the main character. Her hands being a weakness / handicap for her and part of of her history of how she ended up with the nuns is interesting. I loved that the nuns were made as people who sought to be the ones to vanquish evil.

The strongest relationship in the book has to be with the main character and revenant. You start out feeling bad that she was saddled with him/it, but by the time the book ends you feel they are perfectly matched.

I'm going to be the one to say it, I felt some strong chemistry vibes between her and the Revanant. I know it's probably not meant to be that way and that Margaret has someone in mind (not saying who), but I didn't feel a real strong vibe between our main character and that figure... but apparently this is going to be the first of a series, so maybe in time their relationship will grow.

I think the only issue I really had with the book was the accursed/revanants and their backstories/history. I'm sure we'll get it more in time, but I think a tad fixing needed to be on the magic/lore of the saints/accursed.

Otherwise, this book created strong visuals in my mind and I am willing to continue on.

This was super interesting. Ultimately a medieval story about faux Catholicism and demon possession, clergy and saints.

Spooky, thrilling, and fun.

If you are familiar with/like stories of Joan of ARC, One Dark Window, and The Bear and the Nightingale, this one is for you!

I liked that it kind of pursued the way Catholicism somehow attracts this kind of demonic superstitious fear based belief in some of its practitioners. I'm not Catholic myself, but I come from a Catholic family where some people are obsessed with guardian angels, while others go out looking for haunted houses to give themselves a good scare.

Content has zero romance, zero profanity, demon possession, and religious style horror.
