DID NOT FINISH

Sadly I ended up dnfing because I was so bored…

"To anyone who would rather sit in a corner petting the dog than make conversation at a party: This one is for you". This is so fitting a dedication that I had to share it.
Even though I had already loved A Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson, I hadn't yet dived into any of her other stories and it was about time. Vespertine was different to Sorcery but I also loved it. Based loosely on the French medieval times, Artemisa is a great main character. I loved her attitude and how slowly she discovers connection.
If you liked [b:His Fair Assassin: A Trilogy|42082276|His Fair Assassin A Trilogy|Robin LaFevers|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1538056427l/42082276._SY75_.jpg|63636484] by [a:Robin LaFevers|6914204|Robin LaFevers|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] you might find it shares an air. Nuns and death in a French styled civilization even though Robin's is more history heavy and this one is more fantasy. And also, the nuns in Robin's are assassins and here they just wield the ghosts.
Anyway another great read!

SpoilerI absolutely LOVE this book—I’m now convinced I have to read whatever Margaret Rogerson writes, because she is PHENOMENAL at crafting relationships of all kinds between her characters. I absolutely adored Rathanael with every fiber of my being. Its friendship with Artemisia was easily my favorite part of the book. And what a well crafted world to get lost in! If Margaret ever decides to write more in this world—we had a pretty open ending, after all, meaning it’s not ENTIRELY impossible—I’ll be first in line to read it. I’m going to be thinking about Vespertine for a long time.

The best part about this book is the unique fantasy world built by Rogerson. I can see why many people gave it 4 and 5 stars. I'm sure it's just me, but I found the plot to be a bit predictable and I zoned out several times while listening to it.

DID NOT FINISH: 60%

My interests just changed. I really loved what I read though, and would love to go back to it when im feeling that vibe again.

As I’ve been making my way through my own personal backlist (only 23 titles left!) I’ve been surprised at how many good books I’ve had sitting on my home shelves for years just waiting to be read.

This was great, even though there was no romance (which is usually a deal breaker for me
