Just so boring. It's hard to get attached to any of the characters and the story just moves in ways that I don't care about. Not my style.

There is a lot to love here, but I wish this book had a main character we could root for. It's all just buffoons and con men.

The scene set in the Texas Senate committee is one of the funniest things I've read in a while.

The secret society angle drew me in; on the other hand, it's a comic novel about oblivious assholes, and history has shown me that I hate comic novels about oblivious assholes. However, fans of Tom Robbins and John Kennedy Toole may get a kick out of it.

This was recommended in a book that I did like, but I was warned - everything I read about it said the humor was like Mark Twain and the Coen Brothers - so if you like that kind of humor, you may like this book. Except Mark Twain has something extra to make up for the parts I don't care for, and so do the Coen Bros. movies. Usually I can finish a book in a day or two, but this one just slugged on; I just didn't feel motivated to pick it up and read more.
