This is one of the better ones. An intriguing set of characters and a real mystery to uncover. Connects well with history and has fairly plausible character storylines.
Very good installment in the series, with an extra dose of medieval English politics. The father-son relationship with Meriet is done well, and it drives the narrative about who killed a messenger. This is the type of novel where the mystery is very difficult to sort out, largely because key information is kept back.
This particular installment of the Brother Cadfael mysteries felt more obvious and more drawn-out than previous volumes. Some good characters, but others less believable. Not the author’s best work.
this was ok, nothing to write home about though. i was expecting more from this series.
I'm enjoying working my way through these. This is a really good one - I liked it a lot. I never review crime novels in detail because it's impossible not to give stuff away, but this one was really satisfying - and some good touches of humour, too.
