The ending was a little preachy, but I devoured this book. I liked and identified with the main character from the very beginning, and was amazed by her depth over the rocky course of her development. I came to deeply care about and root for a lot of the characters in this book, and I think it paints an interesting portrait of recent history both in DC and the South.

Honestly i loved this book. I got so deeply immersed in Naomi's life. Her coming of age story and how well she handled it in the end.

I absolutely love the story, it's truly inspiring. The only reason why I didn't give it full 5 stars is because of for some weird reason (and I truly cannot explain why), I couldn't get myself to pick up the book and read it. It took me such a long time to finish reading it, even though it kept me on edge thus whole time.
