The Library Book

Susan Orlean

3.99 AVERAGE

Three stars might be a little harsh? It was never QUITE what I wanted it to be, but I learnt a whole lot & enjoyed myself despite that.

This book made me think about Parker a lot. The best parts of it were the glimpses into the lives of the librarians working at LA’s Central Library. They were all so passionate, dedicated, different, and leading their own quiet revolutions. I have always taken for granted that libraries are amazing, but only because they’re literally rooms full of free books— I never thought about the level of outreach and support they provide to the community, especially the homeless.

I think Parker would have really liked being a librarian.
