This book really has so much promise that I'm more disappointed for it than anything. It started off really well. The writing is beautiful in it's simplicity, the characters are immediately likable and sweet. I was confused why people on my friend's list had rated it so low. As I kept going, I finally started going "Ah, now I see."

Unfortunately throughout 75% of this story, I felt like I had been dropped into a book halfway through. As though this was book three in a series and I hadn't read the first two. Nothing is ever really explained. The war, Faerie as a land, the extent of magic and who has it, what the world is really like now. It's all very shallow and self contained. Had the author opened it up to a grander scale, this would have been an incredible story.

As it is, I probably won't pick up the next book. But this was a quick and mildly fun read on its own.

I absolutely adored this book, i loved the adventure, i loved that there was no romance in the book, it was tropy, but i loved the book despite that. I adore Allie and I really like all the other characters and I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel.

Liza lives in a post war world, she's part of the first generation born after the human faerie war.
All children born in her village are killed or left to die, if found with signs of magic.
After Liza's sister is born she becomes one of these children. Heartbroken Lisa's mother leaves the village.
Now alone with her very anti-magic father Liza starts to display faerie power, before her father can find out, she leaves.

The concept behind this book was great, but it didn't really work for me.
The writing style felt off.

The version I have is for the kindle and it had a few issues, it would switch between single, double and even triple spacing what seems like randomly. It could really do with someone going in and altering this.

This book was really well written and a compelling read, but the ending felt sudden and unfinished for me. If the ending had matched the rest of the book, I would have given this 5 stars.

This book was a paradox. Easy to read yet I struggled to understand the characters, the plot, the conflict and the point.

A delightful mix of sweet and bleak. Nicely written, imaginative, great characters. Quite a dark story of a world after a devastating war. The way people have coped with their truth of the world leads to some living in fear of others and some living with welcome and trust.

Nice.
