Even though I think he could work on editing, I’ll always be a Stephen King fan. The creepiest thing about this book? How eerily similar it was to today’s political climate. The ending was a little abrupt and not much of a surprise, but overall a great read.

This was my first Stephen King book so perhaps this is something that many fans of his choose to ignore, but I absolutely could not get past how all of his characters played into harmful and offensive stereotypes.

Police force made entirely of men. Only male doctors but all female nurses. The murderer of a number of young women is a black man. The rich family’s gardener is an immigrant. All along with handful of racial slurs as “jokes” scattered throughout. Sure this was written in 1979 (still no excuse in my eyes), but I’m wondering exactly who would enjoy this beyond the white male audience?
