This is a great non-fiction picture book but would be best for upper elementary or middle grade students. It is very wordy. The concepts could lead to wonderful discussion or writing projects.

A great start to learning Barbara Jordan’s story. This book was very engaging to my 5 year old and facilitated some really great questions about how government works. Beautiful art throughout.

Barbara Jordan was a truly amazing woman. Love that there is a book about her so others can learn. Beautifully written and illustrated.

I had high hopes for this book because I generally like Chris Barton’s books and I love Barbara Jordan, but it felt really short and left out a lot of what she did throughout her life, as viewed in the back on the time line. I guess this was supposed to be written for possibly 2nd graders because it really didn’t delve into her life too much. I was left wanting for sure at the end.

Barbara Jordan was a former congresswoman who began her career as a lawyer and ended it as an educator.
She is known for her powerful voice; her most well-known speech was probably her opening speech for Richard Nixon’s impeachment investigation.
In Texas, you can find many schools named in her honor.
The illustrations in this book are gorgeous, and it’s written by one of my favorite authors!

As a child, Barbara Jordan was one of my heroes so I am very picky when it comes to books about her. This book was beautifully illustrated and well written. Congresswomen Jordan would approve.
