This is a very sweet book about 2 young people a grumpy and sunshine falling in love, actually talking about consent at all points, and magic in an urban fantasy setting. A great book all around.

I only have 2 real criticisms of this book.

1- it takes a good while for the true plot to start (as in we are almost half way through the book before the action really starts), but I don't mind it as much as I have with other books that have the same problem because the first half isn't just filler nonsense, there is a lot of character development and world building being done there, I just think the action could have started earlier.

Potential spoiler!

2- there are some significant things mentioned by the characters multiple times, so I naturally thought they would become a plot twist or revelation down the line. But the potential for that was just sort of left to wither a bit. I was expecting a big reveal due to how much this one thing was mentioned and it just came to nothing.

Overall, loved it! Definitely going to be staying on my shelf for a later reread. F T Lukens is an author I always trust for a good time!

📖 I don’t remember who, but someone recommended this to me on Bookstagram at the beginning of the year as a really good queer book rec. I am so glad I picked this one up at my local library because this was one of the most delightful, heartwarming, and entertaining YA books I’ve read this year. It literally has all of my favorite tropes and I was smiling the entire time I read it. I also think I binged it in 2 days.

🪄Magic | 🌤️Grumpy sunshine | ⚔️Rivals to lovers | 🏳️‍⚧️Nonbinary  MC rep | 🏡Found family

It’s been a while since a fantasy book awakened my adoration for magic. I just wanted to live in this world. I wanted to be friends with the main characters and with their powerfully magic, badass mentors. Everything about this book had me wanting to live inside of the pages and experience the adorable romance and the adventures the two characters went on. Also can I just say how heartwarming the found family trope is in this book? It’s truly delightful. 💕

If you’re looking for a lighthearted read that has deep characters, hilarious magical happenings, and some very powerful and sassy witches, this will not disappoint you!

I love the dynamic between sun and rook slash trope of grumpy x sunshine! So wholesome along with them dealing with the magic “bad guys.”
I feel like there was some stuff I feel like could’ve been more explored but it’s okay this was so cozy and the found family trope!?
