A very enjoyable example of the reimagine a classic minor character trope, with a really beautifully done ending. My only complaint was that the detox process felt a little glossed over, which didn’t seem right given how central it is to Anne’s development.

I have to say, I wasn't expecting this to be quite so gay. And it worked so well.

This got me so excited about the Pride & Prejudice universe, in a way that I haven't been for a long time. I loved Anne's story, how her health and how she was treated were explored, how her feelings were brought to the surface. I thought it was very clever, and it came across as very real. When I was reading it, it was like of course that's why! It just made sense.

Excellent exploration of quite difficult themes. And I really liked that this wasn't a hopeful book. It was dark, and it stayed dark even as Anne glimpsed happiness. It felt almost heavy on my soul to read, almost crushing. It's an emotional experience, reading this book, and I wouldn't change a moment.

I really enjoyed this book. Certain parts were more slow-going, but they helped to contrast later parts of the book.

The Heiress is a romantic Pride and Prejudice retelling/spin-off with such beautiful and romantic writing that it could be by Austen herself. It has such an interesting premise following Mr. Darcy's cousin, but it absolutely takes on a world of its own. The characters are very real and such an integral part of the story. It's slow paced and character driven, following Anne's entire life. I felt so sad at the ending that I almost feel in mourning. Also, the lesbian romance is handled so well and did not disappoint; it's a cornerstone of the story but doesn't come in for a while (but it is so worth it). I recommend this book to anyone who likes sapphic historical romance, strong character growth, and poetic stories.

This book held my attention very well. I liked the main character and experiencing her story. I also felt like I learned more about Regency Era England, which I enjoyed. I was definitely excited to read this story set in the world of Pride and Prejudice and about a queer woman, and I was not disappointed! I'm curious to read the author's other P&P book about Charlotte.

A Pride and Prejudice retelling of the mysterious Anne, her addiction to an opium based medication, and being stifled by society’s expectations of women. This is a good one for lovers of historical fiction, Jane Austen fans and fans of beautiful writing. Thank you to William Morrow for the gifted copy.
