4* -pentru ca V este unul dintre autorii mei preferati si ii gust umorul si stilul narativ. Pentru persoanele neavizate, ar fi una dintre cartile slabe ale autorului.
What an odd book. This mix of auto-biography and science fiction definitely fits the Vonnegut mold. That being said, I do not think this book shines like his other novels do. Nevertheless, it stands on its own as being good in itself and cleverly manages to incorporates references to his other novels and a variety of deep reflections on his life. This is definitely a book for the reader well familiar with Vonnegut - which makes it hard to rate. I'm not sure how this book would fair for the first time Vonnegut reader, but I did enjoy it, as I do many of his other novels.
Probably my least favorite Vonnegut that I have finished, but it’s still Vonnegut.
I love Kurt Vonnegut more than words can express, and while this novel was pretty great, it was also a bit misleading. Because there wasn’t that much stuff in terms of the actual Timequake (history going backwards and then forwards 10 years), which would’ve been awesome.
Instead, there were interludes of that mixed with Vonnegut’s stream of consciousness. Mind you, I had no issues with that; Vonnegut is incredible and I loved his writing in this. It was so meta how he was the main character, with the secondary main character being Kilgore Trout (his own fake self from other novels). It was seriously amazing how he just seemed to write about anything that came to his mind and it completely fit together and worked well. But I do feel his general idea for the novel would’ve been amazing had it been more fleshed out. 3.5 stars rounded up.

read as audiobook, which was a bad idea for metafic autobiography with a messy timeline and vonnegut’s run on sentences, but a fun read all the same.
