"I was the baby of the family. Now I don't have anybody to show off for anymore."
Timequake was Vonnegut's final novel. A "frankstein's monster" of a story, stitched together by his many scrapped concepts and attempts at this book with other autobiographical and commentative elements. Though I find the the summary provided for Timequake to be misleading, it's key elements still partially present throughout the story, this book takes on a whole other meaning and narrative coming from Vonnegut. To me it feels like his goodbye, his realization that those loved around him are gone and he's running out of time too. What is promoted as a fictitious narrative about time rewinding 10 years and leaving those affected by it to relive it all out exactly as it had been without the ability to change events, basically becomes Vonneguts catch all for his thoughts on the progress of the novel and a reflection on his life. Randomly cutting in and out of the already almost non existent narrative, this book was hard to read, but I understand why. As previously stated, Vonnegut must've been aware he was running out of time and he didn't know where to take this novel, so he released it as a loose reflection of his thoughts and life, whether only spanning back only 10 years, to the beginning of his career, or in his hopes, assumptions about his life in a future he sadly didn't make it to.

Not one of my favorites of Vonnegut. A fun read, but his misogyny and pessimism are distracting & heavy-handed in this one.
