hello Daphne Elliot, thank you for building a whole big, vibrant, and wildy fun world full of sexy lumberjacks, family drama, and of course the occasionally moose interruption. Caught in the Axe is a deliciously sweet and splendidly sexy introduction to the yummiest brood of lumberjacks and their small town Maine life. The chemistry is fantastic, the characters are lovable, and the family drama was engrossing, and the swoons kept coming. This feel good story had me grinning….and I am here for all the lumberjacks!

Of course, Owen is the least lumberjack-y of all his brothers. He’s rugged and strong, a bit edgy and rough around the edges, sure, but he’s also a bit geeky. He’s the smart busy-savvy numbers guy- and he’s got a huge job on his shoulders returning home to small town Maine to help pick up the shambles of his family’s lumber business after a huge family scandal. It’s a task so big he finds himself needing assistance, and fate puts him in the path of alluring LIla, a capable numbers and business gal herself who is happy to assist. The attraction is instant, the chemistry and banter sparkles off the page. The only problem? She’s ten years younger….and he’s half brother’s ex.

These two are so adorable together! Their romance is cozy and gentle. The chemistry is charming and fun, Owen turns out to be less growly stoic bear and into the most delectable supportive, sexy, and thoughtful book boyfriend, and Lila is a ray of sunshine that comes in and smashes through Owen’s big grumpy cloud. She’s kind and open-hearted, with a radiant vulnerability that squeezed my heart. But she’s also feisty.. And I loved how sweetly she challenges Owen to let go of the chip on his shoulder, to want more than work, to embrace his need for love…and family. And I loved how Owen helps affirm and uplift Lila. He sees and respects her, even when they are just friends, and he provides the safety and assurance she needs to reach for her professional dreams…and to take a risk on the guy she never saw coming. He’s so swoony. I loved their partnership as much as I loved their romance too.

Daphne is a new to me author, and I’m excited to read more. I found the prose to flow naturally, and the characters are wonderfully realized. I did think parts of this moved a bit slowly/dragged in places (perhaps the burn was just too slow for me LOL), but the story overall was great. And who knew there was so much scandal in small town Maine?! And I am here for it! I’m dying to read the prior series to dive into the backstory, but the brothers, their ex-rival new friends, and all of those around them are just delightful. I can’t wait to be back in Lovewell! What a dreamy and fun place and a marvelous introduction to Daphne.

4.5 ☆

As always Daphne Elliot delivers a book full of suspense, tension and some very good spice. I am actually obsessed with how much I enjoy these books.

These characters are so lovable, a geeky lumberjack?? YES PLEASE. Ex’s older brother? Heck yeah. Sprinkle in a little boss/assistant. I’m sold.

The chemistry, banter and tension between Owen and Lila was undeniable and I absolutely devoured it.

Thank you to the author, Daphne Elliot for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

There wasn't really anything wrong with this book, I just got bored with it.

I like the idea of a book focusing on small town Maine , and what I assume will be a series of lumberjack brothers. At one point, someone describes them all, and this book is “corporate lumberjack”. Aka Owen - who we met as the CFO of DeLuca construction in the mom coms. The love interest is Lila, who was hired to help Owen with the sale of their family business - oh and is his youngest brothers ex.

This book wasn’t it for me. Aside from enjoying the parts of Maine culture and the cameos by mom com characters - I really didn’t care much about the characters and their story. I did respect Lila a bunch, and how she was working to better herself. Owen just came across as a watered down prick. Like, calling him entitled is too strong, but there is something I didn’t like. Maybe judgement?? And I didn’t buy their romance, aside from Owen obviously having a competence kink. But, the sexy times fell flat for me.

And - there were a few loose ends that will may e be resolved as the series continue, but as of right now I’m undecided on if I care enough about these unsolved mysteries to continue this series.

Thank you to the author agency for providing an advanced copy in order to provide my honest review.
