A collection of short stories set in fictional Everdene. I really liked the short stories and even grew to enjoy the recipes in it (they annoyed me to start with). I really could have done without the personal commentary from the author, that’s what made me the most iffy. I really liked how the stories intertwined at the end. Low stakes, super happy stories. I really liked them all! Will probably reach for the authors other stories.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the format-the book was divided into 8 sections
  • breakfast
  • picnic food
  • treats and snacks
  • a birthday banquet
  • seafood suppers
  • family favourites
  • a romantic dinner for two
  • nightcap
each section had a short story, some recipes and some have a little anecdote or note from the author

The book is set at a row of beach huts at Everdene seaside and each short story follows the people currently staying in each hut. There are two authors on a writing retreat, a family struggling with the mother being so absorbed by being an influencer, a couple who do fishing and selling sea food and more lovely stories. I enjoyed every story thoroughly.

The final story was a lady working in the ice cream van serving a character from each of the previous stories, so it was great to have a little insight into what happened to the characters after the short story finished

Only thing I can think of that could have been better was that there were a few illustrations throughout the book and i would have appreciated it if each recipe was illustrated so I could have an idea what the completed dish should look like
