I'm enjoying the series but Kvothe is so full of himself I can't give this more than three stars. He's such a shit.

I started this hoping it would take a different direction, but Kvothe's still at the college, unable to afford tuition, squabbling with Ambrose, and pining after Denna.
I have a 100-page rule with books. At the end of 100 pages I still wasn't interested. Maybe I'll come back to this in the future, but for right now I'm just not feeling it.

An enjoyable book. More than anything I enjoy the author's writing style. Two books into the series and you still have no idea what's going on, but you don't feel that's a problem either.

Remarkably forgettable after The Name of the Wind. I think a lot of fans would rather pretend this book didn't exist at this point and that book #1 is a standalone project

update 4.5 years later: worst book in a long time. nothing meaningful happens to further the character, he is unchanged except for being sexually active. Denna is a horribly written character. this series was a waste of my time. time to recycle them.
