While it was a delight to read a Flavia De Luc novel again after such a hiatus (6 whole years between publications!!) I think the novel feel a bit short of it's predecessors. Namely, the book focused so heavily on the subplot (of which I had forgotten most of...see 6 years above) rather than the mystery that I felt lost at times. Ultimately while I enjoyed being back in that world again, I was disappointed by the lack of satisfaction with the plot. Would still recommend this series and I look forward to the next one.
This particular but had a lot of completely unrealistic elements, but I still enjoyed it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love this series. It’s one of the few that I can think of that has actually improved with age and number of books in the series. It’s hard to maintain that. I’m growing to like Undine more than I did and I always have a soft spot for Dogger. And I also thought it was really special to get more insight into Mrs. Mullet.
It was a little bit all over the place at times, so I can see some complaints about that, but I feel like it was a bit of a filler book to start the next chapter of Flavia’s life. I want to see more of her cases as a private detective.
Once again, I would also like to see more of Feely and Daffy get to be friends with Flavia, but I say that every book so take it with a grain of salt. All in all, another great addition to the series.
