I had no idea this book was coming out, and I thought we had heard the last from Flavia, until last week when I discovered it was coming out in September. Within days I acquired an ARC, unable to wait another three months or so. This was a solid and startling addition to the series. I loved the mushrooms and reference to Eliza Acton in the beginning, I love Mrs.Mullett, and I always appreciate a Flavia book that is not only about the mystery of the day, but also about Flavia and the mysteries of her family. The twist in the middle was shocking, and I loved that Flavia's reaction to this and to her ridiculous family was one of anger and judgement. She knows who she is and she knows her values, and she knows that murdering people for the "greater good" is bullshit. Also, Undine continues to be an interesting and complicated presence in her life. I hope Flavia's story will continue.

"Becoming a woman was not part of my plan. The thought of becoming a lady was even worse."

So happy for the return of Flavia! Bradley's method of distracting the reader from the plot with Flavia's (and cousin Undine's) entertaining antics, combined with Jayne Entwistle's delightful narration, always means I have to get the printed book and re-read sections to discover which plot developments I missed! But that's entirely my fault and I wouldn't change the experience for the world. I adore this series and #11 does not disappointment.

Another Flavia book. I really do love this whole series. A secret is revealed in this one. Flavia must reconcile with family secrets. I love Alan Bradley’s descriptive writing and how he uses Flavia’’s voice. Favorite series for me.
