2.5/5 - Not my favorite of the series, though I won't ever tire of Flavia's wit and Dogger's sweet and quiet love. I am confused about how old Flavia is now, because it seems like she should be getting towards grown, but she still acts very childish. Given her life circumstances, I think she should be a lot more jaded and mature by now, but she continues to be sort of frivolous and silly. Undine is okay, like popping in another Flavia when she is too old to say things like, "I'll have the poop pudding for breakfast with a side of toenail clippings." Also, her father sucks.

This audiobook series with Jayne Entwistle narrating is by far one of the best narrations of a series out there. Her voicing is fantastic.

Not my favorite of the series. Dragged a bit. I prefer the books of the series that don’t focus on the secret society and this one was almost entirely that.

I really enjoy this series, and the changes as Flavia grows up are good additions.

I love Flavia, and I missed her! While we’re moving out of the small town whodunits and into the overarching “big bad” storyline that’s lurked behind many of Flavia’s plots, it’s a satisfying trajectory. The mystery grows as she does, but she’ll never grow out of being the precocious girl genius with penchants for chemistry and crime.
