And after a few days processing what I read I actually decided this book deserves 3 stars. How can a book be 4 stars when the protagonist is literally the worst person in the world.
Like any other character would’ve been a more interesting protagonist, especially Artemis, not that I want Ernest Cline to write a book from a woman’s pov. The only thing worse than wades pov would be a woman’s pov written by Cline. I think he would really benefit from reading some books written by women with female protagonists.
Moderate: Sexism, Body shaming, Death, Fatphobia, Transphobia, and Violence
Minor: Homophobia, Mental illness, Panic attacks/disorders, Body shaming, Gun violence, Physical abuse, and Suicidal thoughts

Kind of a bummer, because I think this book had a lot of potential. I still liked it though, and I’ll probably check out the sequel. I can definitely see why this was adapted into a movie and I’ll be checking that out too.
Moderate: Addiction, Murder, and Classism
Minor: Sexual content, Fatphobia, Lesbophobia, Bullying, Child abuse, Death of parent, Drug abuse, and Panic attacks/disorders

For a book that had dozens of references to movies and media that I knew nothing about and spent endless time discussing those references, I was STILL able to connect so well to the characters, their stories, their struggles, and their lives.
This book told a story made up of action, adventure, and fantasy so well, while also touching on the struggles that our society has now that technology has become such a prominent part of our day to day lives.
This book was beautifully crafted. Everyone should go pick up a copy and get to reading 🖤
Moderate: Panic attacks/disorders, Murder, and Sexual content
Minor: Drug use, Transphobia, and Suicide
