Holey baloey...this book scared the crud outta me. I've read two of his other books about Smokey but for some reason this one gave me the shakes! Great book though..never would have guessed what happened.

I picked this book up by random at the library and was happy I did! Although, I later discovered that this was book 4 of a series! Dammit! I hate when that happens. However, it works as a stand alone book and I never felt confused or like I missed out not having read the first three in the series (and will be reading the other books soon).
I started reading the book and when I thought maybe there were previous books I checked it out on Goodreads and sure enough, this was book 4 AND this book had a lot of mixed reviews. As I kept reading, however, I found that I really loved the characters and how they interacted with each other. The story was new and compelling. It felt original and it was exciting. It kept me guessing! I enjoyed this book a lot and would recommend it to anyone looking for a thriller.

Bad writing, boring and uninteresting plot

McFadyen didn't get as bogged down in repeating the character backgrounds as he usually does which added to my enjoyment of the book. However, there is still room for improvement on is front. Hopefully, he and his editor figure it out sooner rather than later.

Usually when I read a series, by the second or third book, I need to take a break and read something else. Not Cody McFadyen's books. There is only one other author I've found that has fresh, thrilling plots, relatable and really enjoyable characters, and such an amazing way with words, and that was Andrew Mayne. I cannot recommend these books highly enough.

Another great read in the Smoky Barrett series. A different king of monster this time. The whole team is involved & a little more deepening of the relationship with Tommy, Smoky, & Bonnie. Also changes coming in the FBI teams & funding. These books are very well written by Cody. He does a fantastic job with his lead female character & sub characters. Can't wait to read the next in the series "The Truth Factory"
