This story follows Tessa, a human that lives in the Kingdom of Light that is now surrounded by deadly mists thanks to the Mist King, and her and her fellow humans live in a place that is severely oppressed by the light fae and their king, Oberon. Tessa has been stealing King Oberon's gems for a rebel fae who claims if he gets enough, he can free the humans from the mists and King Oberon. Well, Tessa gets caught by King Oberon, but surprisingly, he lets her go. Tessa is unsure why until the next day when King Oberon is to select his next human wife, he selects Tessa. She has a month to either kill the king, or get out.

I think the concept and idea of this book was great! I really liked the world, the magic, and of course the fae. The fae are not your friends in this book. They treat humans rather poorly, and so some that Tessa meets who seem kind, it makes you wonder whether they're genuine, or if they have an endgame. I really liked the mystery, and trying to figure out who is telling the truth or not the truth. It was an endless guessing game for me throughout the entirety of the book.

For the most part I liked the characters, however, the real reason I gave this three stars is because of Tessa, our female MC. She started off fine, but then she became rather petulant, who acts on emotions, and doesn't believe anyone, and instead of thinking logically, she acts out without thinking. I kept forgetting she is supposed to be 25 through the entire book. She acted like she was more like 16 or younger. The decisions she made she never thought through and tended to not end well for her.

I really did like the story, Tessa just made it difficult for me to read and enjoy the book. The ending was interesting, and I may read the next book just to see how the story continues. I received a free digital copy to read(thank you to NetGalley and the publisher). All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Okay, so the writting in this book is bad. It feels boring, very flat and very repetitive. To be honest the one thing that kept me reading was curiosity. I wanted to know more, because we are kept in the dark a lot. Things happend but they dont make any sense. The plot goes nowhere. The protagonist are very dull. Tessa makes my head hurt with all her thoughts and decisions. The king is exactly the same.

I want to know what happens next but im not eager to pick the next one.
