I have no memory from when I started this book. It was probably around 2013? Just when I had finnished the tv series.
I wasn't that into it back then but now I really enjoyed it! It's a very open book about struggles of Rae and it was heartbreaking and lovely at the same time.

Can't wait to buy the second one!

I think this may be a rare case of living the show more than the book, but it's only because her diary sounds more like mine did when I was a teenager.

I was really excited to read this book since I loved the TV series so much. This is a rare case where the show is better. While there are elements of the story that are similar, the book lacks depth and heart. While the show explored deep subject matter, it wasn’t solely negative. The book kind of made me feel like I was a pathetic fat case again!

I received a copy of this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Netgalley!

Ah man. I really liked parts of this. Rae is sharp, funny, and reminds me a lot of myself at that age. I think if I ever get around to watching the show, I'll love it. Not having a visual medium or not knowing the people involved, it feels like you're missing out on something, ya know? And there's the part of me that almost viscerally rejects anything regarding high school because a) it was very bad and b) it wasn't long enough ago for me to get nostalgic about it. The faults here lie with me not wanting to read something about high school, not the diary itself.

My attention just won't hold on a diary of a 14 year old girl, and it's hard to understand the narrator's accent in the audiobook, cute as it is.

This book was no way near as bad as everyone else seems to think. Yes it is different to the TV series, but it did come first...

It's very very light hearted and very silly. So no good if you're after a serious read. I like the journal style of writing, however it also means it doesn't reach a proper concluson, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!

This is like a darker version of Georgia Nicolson. LOVE.

Incredible look into what felt like my diary, just by a British girl in 1989. So many rough feelings. And yet still hilarious!

I found the book alright. Unfortunately I had seen the TV show prior to reading the book, and felt there was something off about the story. It didnt sit comfortably with me. Although the book is quite good, I couldn't get myself to enjoy it at its full extent.
