I really liked the world building here, with the infusing of so many elements of Persian storytelling and lore. The universe of the story was rich and evocative. At times I found the pace felt a bit stuck, like we were swirling around in the same conflicts without much progression. Still, you don’t need to be a deep fantasy lover to enjoy this read. If you’re a fan of feminist fairytales, then this is one to try.

Do you want soft tender sapphic vibes? Embracing the monster within to accomplish your goals? A story that doesn't linger over failure to communicate as a plot device? This story may be for you!

I got pulled back, forth, and in every other direction by this story, in a good way. The main character's decisions could be seen as quite flip-flop-y, if you really don't like that kind of behaviour, but I saw it as learning the game of manipulation as she went, myself.

I wasn't sure about this book at first, but I ended up really enjoying it! I didn't guess the whole plot and the characters were all believable. The overall messages of how to handle mistakes and accepting ourselves were really well-handled and didn't feel trite or simplified. It was nice.
