A great rendition of an oral tradition story. I noticed a few themes that not only explained the mosquito buzz but also what happens when people don't listen or assume and not ask questions. Illustrations were beautiful, colorful and dramatic pushing the story events along.

Between this and the Anansi book I read right before, I'm hardcore wanting to read nothing but African folktales. This one is so cute, especially the illustrations. I'm especially in love with the salty iguana.

I love this book, always have. I think I have read so much that the pictures are burned into the inside of my skull.

Classic children's story for a reason, has a wonderful story line with great pictures that will keep children and readers interested and want to discover the rest of the story.

Good book about the effect of rumor and assumption on the community around you.
ONly reason I didn't love it was that having to keep saying an owl died was a bit hard when reading to a precocious and emotional toddler was exhausting.
