This one was a tough read. I felt like the author had a grandchild in real life or something and basically wrote about what it's like to have a grandchild/toddler. Honestly I couldn't care less about Jimmy. He had practically little to do with the plot.

I would give this a 1 star, but I do have to give some credit to certain parts of the book that bumped it up to 2 stars (however very few). I won't give up on this series, but my oh my was this one hard to finish.

Well, let me start by saying that I tried something a bit different with this book than the earlier Outlander books. This time, I took my time reading the book, taking approximately a week to read The Fiery Cross. Compared to Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager, which I read in a couple days each, this was a much more relaxed pace. I think I'll continue to read at a slower pace, as I was able to enjoy this book more by taking it slowly. I was also able to enjoy some of the smaller nuances this way.

In general, here are my thoughts.

The Fiery Cross was definitely better than Drums of Autumn. There was more action in this book than Drums of Autumn, which felt like a filler novel at time. I really enjoyed the conflicts involving Stephen Bonnet and Jocasta/River Run. That added a lot to the book, and I was really not expecting what was found in Hector's mausoleum. I also really enjoyed the changes in the relationship between Jamie and Claire. However, at times, you just want to smack Claire for waiting 20 years to look for Jamie... so much wasted time!

I'll add more thoughts later. :)

I love this series. I really enjoyed this book. There was less adventure although there were still high stakes and crazy things happening it all felt more homely which I enjoyed reading. The little details of monotonous life in the North Carolina backcountry. It made me warm to the characters of Roger and Briana far more. This book really solidified the readers concern for those two characters. You are rooting for them just as much as you are for Jamie and Claire. Also the amount of detail is amazing make me wonder at how long it took to research for a book like this!!!

I had more fun watching paint dry than seeing the plot move in this book. It seems that the story just dragged on without a clear path for the plot. I am so disappointed that I had to leave a review.
