this book was okay, though it had a more satisfying plot than the previous one. there was just so much weird magic that wasn’t really explained and came in randomly to save the day with no explanation. lore was randomly dropped only to intensify the relationship, and didn’t really affect the story. got REALLY tired of being in verena and dacre’s heads

DID NOT FINISH: 9%

I genuinely couldn’t bring myself to care

I absolutely loved this series!
I am so glad it did not take Dacre long to rescue Verena! I also love the fact that they are mates and I think I like this version of mates the most. They were true fated mates that were always drawn to each other and the love they had for each other was just mesmerizing.
I fell in love with Dacre and just kept falling when he chose her over everything. I love that he stood up to his father and the possessiveness in him! 🔥
I’m glad that the truth came out about their mothers and I’m glad that Dacres father turned sides and joined in on hers.
I’m also glad the Verena was the one to kill her father even though Dacre would have gladly done it.
This is one of my favourite series and I couldn’t put it down. Every time I went to finish a chapter I just couldn’t stop!
I wish I could get more of their lives together as king and queen because they were definitely spicy! Loved how it ended with some spice too, it was exactly how they were together, Dacre worshipping her and Verena not being able to resist!

I fought for my life with this book! The only reason I didn’t DNF was because I read the first two and needed to know how it ended. Skimmed the last 50%. The last 5% was good though

I’m going to start with saying I still really loved the series as a whole but this book just felt so RUSHED. The timeline had me so incredibly confused, I was under the impression in TVK that Verena hadn’t been on the streets for super long but in this book they all talk like they were young children when the raid happened and she was displaced? Not a huge issue but something that was mentioned quite a few times that had me scratching my head and taking me out of the story. Also there were a few plot lines/revelations that occurred in this book that felt like they would’ve been better placed in book two or like, maybe this could have been a four book series to properly explore everything.

The first bit of the book is slow and then all the sudden things are happening and it just all feels like things were conveniently added in order to further the story along. Which I’m usually just a ✨vibes reader✨ my critical thinking when I’m reading books is usually nonexistent so if I picked up on this stuff it was very noticeable.

I still enjoyed the story overall, but this book just kinda fell flat for me sadly. Am I still sad that we don’t get anymore Dacre? Yes. Would I love more Verena and Kai and Wren? Also yes.

I would recommend this series still, but mostly to those readers who want more romance in their fantasy novels and don’t want much with the world building and complex plot lines.

Eh. This book was like oatmeal- it satisfied but was very bland.
It took me forever to read because it just didn’t grab me. The plot was very loose- everything just kinda of happened. Don’t get me started on the end, all the build up for like one chapter of a fight scene.

Definitely the best of the 3 book series. We get some serious plot development and character growth. It still rushes through everything, there's no element of fear or worry for the characters because everything is dealt with so quickly. In less than 2 minutes the king completely changes his mind about venera, after hunting her down for 3 books? I'm just glad I finished it, it's nothing to write home about, but it was an enjoyable easy read.
