I think this was a good way to end the series. I only wish we had an intro to the different kingdoms and the concept of mates earlier in the series, it would have been less random. I also wished the war and Verona's journey had been the main plot with the romance being second. Dacre didn't seem to focus on anything else except their relationship.
Also, too many sharp and shallow breaths and darkened eyes in this book.

After the second book, I was not sure I would read this one but I wanted to know how it would end. It was definitely better than the second book in my opinion. We got to see more of the spunk Verena has and Dacre is still a secret sweetheart for her. I enjoyed seeing more from the side characters we loved and would not mind reading another book about them.
Well, I hated that.
Verena is the last daughter of Veyrith. Except she's not because Wren and Dacre's mom was from Veyrith, as is Micah and his sister. I guess Verena is just the most important of the last daughters because despite having no magic for 2 whole ass books, she can suddenly master having the deepest, most powerful, scariest magic of anybody, including her father. Her father is dying from all the evil siphoning he is doing, but instead of letting nature take its course and he burn himself out, everyone must intervene and attack the castle now.
So many contradictions when it comes to the magic. It's something felt within, except when you use too much, then it is empty. But even when empty and fighting, everyone finds more to use. And Verena has an actual piece of the vessel in her that she can feel. And also a piece of the Veyrith vessel, even though her father destroyed that when he destroyed Veyrith. But even though Dacre can feel all parts and emotions of Verena through their mate bond, he can't feel these pieces of the vessels. And Verena can see into the past. And talk to her dead mother. But her magic ability is siphoning.
When I read about these tiny kingdoms with all these tyranny issues, I often wonder if it would be better for them to be demolished and start from scratch or rolled into a larger, more successful kingdom.

I thought I would be able to push and finish this book but I just didn’t want to.
