Yeah. The second part of the book when "that part" between Cory and his friends happen was a stretch to far for what I was expecting. Apparently this is not the type of story I was looking for, It's TOO supernatural. That escene kill it for me and unless somebody tell me it was a dream or something I'm quitting this book for good.

I really didn’t want to like this book/ it was a choice for my book club... well- I loved it!!! It is as so fun to view events from history through a young boys eyes! Oh the exciting adventures he had!!! Keep Kleenex’s ready- there are several emotional parts. This is a book you need to read!!

5 Out of 5 Green Feathers. I don't feel articulate enough to give this particular story the praise it deserves. This is a story of magic, mystery, and adventure. Where you can believe all the old stories that the old men tell; even if they don't believe them themselves anymore. This novel is childhood and its magic distilled in text form.

It's good. It didn't quite live up to the fervor with which it had been recommended to me-- a variety of horror writers as well as online lists of must-read horror tended to refer to reading it as something of a religious experience-- but it was enjoyable. Probably good to know going in that it doesn't really have a plot other than a murder mystery that pops up occasionally throughout the novel, but is rather a series of vignettes. Also, in spite of it being referred to me as a horror novel, I'd argue it's a coming-of-age novel with a healthy shattering of fantasy and a sprinkle of horror.

2 // Presenting ... the dreadful schoolbook which put me in a two week long reading slump resulting in my being 3 books behind my reading schedule. All I will dare to say about this book is that it was a poorly executed attempt at being an interesting novel. It lacked its promised murder mystery elements (which on the rare occasion they were brought up the book started picking up), it had poorly developed and placed magical realism, and after reading a whole six hundred pages devoted to this small town, I still have yet to feel any inkling of attachment to the characters.

Overall, I would not recommend this book, well perhaps to my enemies.
